Create a self-portrait plate inspired by my auction piece! Kids will make a clay slab, drape it over a plate mold, and use underglaze paint to depict themselves. Each self-portrait will include at least one prop or visual cue to share something unique about them.
January 21
Large oil pastel drawings inspired by Stephen Gluckert's piece. Kids will design a pop can and create drawings based on a still-life setup.
January 28
Sculptural salt and pepper shakers inspired by Andrew Avakian's work in the SOLID GOLD Auction Exhibition. We’ll cover basic clay sculpting techniques and explore how to make the two pieces relate to each other.
February 4
Cardboard block printing inspired by SOLID GOLD Exhibition auction prints. Kids will use different parts of cardboard for texture, design a simple landscape, and ink their boards with rollers to create prints.
February 7
Carved and painted linocuts inspired by Stella Nall's auction piece. Kids will learn to carve lines for a contrasting animal image. All clay projects will also be ready to take home this day.
